When it comes to kid’s hair, sometimes it’s easy just to cut their hair at home if it’s a simple trim. But sometimes having a professional do the work is necessary and maybe a fun splurge or even a back-to-school look. Without being over the top, here are some cute inspirational cuts for kids that set the tone for a fun, fresh look for the kiddos.

What’s more classic than some curls. This cutie looks ready for her first day back to school with her hair color and beautiful curls on point. It’s not too short but not super long either. This is a great look for any little girl.     @impactbeauty_byshay
A simple bob is always in style. Sometimes a little girl just doesn’t want to fuss with long hair. With a one length pretty bob that’s curled at the end, this little girl is rockin’ it. It’s low maintenance, can be styled in various ways and shows off her youthful, feminine energy.     @topnotchbeautycorner
Adorable, trendy and cute. This little girl has got it going on in a stylish, fun way. The small details like the gold crown trinkets and gold coil around the braid make any little girl look and feel like a princess.     @definitionssalonspa
Say yes to the curtain bang. Simple curtain bangs that frame the face add some style and depth to long straight hair. Part the hair down the middle for curtain bangs or style them for a side swept bang with a side part to change it up. The curtain bang is versatile!     @hairby_angelina_ine
This little girl is beyond her years with this asymmetrical bob that is to die for. And with straight one length bangs, her look is sassy and fun. It’s sure to catch a lot of adoring attention…from the parents.   @balayagemary

A heavy chunky bang is always super cute on little girls. They can somehow pull it off much better than adults. Why is that? Combine it with some waves and you’ve got a feminine, sweet look. It’s easy to maintain and very versatile.     @holykale.hair
Is she growing up too fast? This little girl looks like she has an adult haircut. With a cute French bob, highlights and slight wave, she’s letting everyone know she’s the queen of trending hair. Maybe not easy to maintain, but it sure is cute!

Boys:

  @nutty_nels
Doesn’t he look sweet? This gentleman’s…or should we say gentleboy’s haircut is clean, classic and tidy. It’s short on the sides with a little length on top and combed to the side. This little man is ready for school.     @salonsuccess

This little guy is just cool. While it’s temporary, a little hair art shows off his creative side. This kid has great hair so having his hair very short on the sides but longer on top makes his look more edgy and stylish. It’s a bit higher maintenance, but it’s fun!     @hairby.a.c.m

Can we say mullet? It’s not for every little boy, but they sure look cute with one, much cuter than adult males. This kind of cut looks best when the hair is naturally a bit textured. He’s pulls it off well.   @xv.josh

How cute is this little boy? That smile is adorable and the precise and clean lines of his haircut are on point. The extra design at the top just set this hairstyle off. A bit high maintenance, but it’s mainly just the outlining that needs regular attention.   @hairbiz.withizz

Scroll through all the images and you’ll see this haircut is more than it seems. At first it looks like a pompadour, but when you look at the back, it’s a whole other story. This look works well on a boy with a great head of hair. It’s edgy, relatively easy to maintain and stylish.   @a1errthing

This little boy looks so happy and he should be! This haircut fits him perfectly. It’s clean and stylish at the same time. He definitely looks school ready with his perfectly razored outlined hairline and simple hair design in the back.   @hairbyscheila
For a more tidy, classy look, try a side hard part. It’s easy for any barber to create with a razor and it gives an extra pop to any boy’s hairstyle. Comb the top of the hair to the opposite direction of the part and use a little product. He’s ready to go!

The Evolution of Hairstyles Throughout the Decades
Hairstyles have always been a significant aspect of human culture, reflecting the trends, values, and social norms of different eras. Let's explore the history and evolution of hairstyles over the decades: 1920s: The Roaring Twenties introduced a major shift in women's hairstyles. The iconic bob haircut became popular, characterized by short, straight hair that was often worn with a side parting. This style symbolized women's liberation and a break from traditional gender roles. The Evolution of Hairstyles Throughout the Decades1930s: The 1930s saw a transition from the boyish bob to more feminine and glamorous looks. Soft waves and curls were fashionable, and women often used hot rollers or pin curls to achieve the desired effect. The Hollywood influence played a significant role in popularizing these glamorous hairstyles. The most popular look was the Hollywood wave which has continued to be a popular look in the 2020s. 1940s: The World War II era influenced hairstyles as practicality and functionality became essential. Victory rolls were popular among women, involving rolling and pinning sections of hair to create a prominent wave at the front. Shorter, cropped hairstyles were also prevalent due to the practicality of working women. The victory roll is a popular hairstyles for pinup girls of today. 1950s: The 1950s embraced femininity and elegance. Women's hairstyles often featured voluminous curls, poodle cuts, and the iconic bouffant. The advent of hair spray helped maintain these elaborate styles. Men's hair was often slicked back or styled into a pompadour. 1960s: The 1960s brought about a revolution in hairstyles, influenced by the counterculture movements and the rise of British pop culture. Women started to experiment with shorter haircuts like the pixie cut and the mod bob. The beehive hairstyle, popularized by icons like Audrey Hepburn, was also a notable trend. The Evolution of Hairstyles Throughout the Decades1970s: The 1970s showcased diverse hairstyles influenced by the hippie movement and disco culture. Women embraced long, flowing hair, often with center parts. The Afro hairstyle gained popularity among African-Americans as a symbol of pride and identity. Men's hairstyles became more relaxed, with longer hair, shaggy cuts and facial hair. 1980s: The 1980s were characterized by bold and dramatic hairstyles. Big hair was in, with women teasing their hair to achieve volume and using copious amounts of hairspray. Perms, mullets, and feathered hairstyles were all the rage. Men also sported voluminous hairstyles, including the famous "mullet" style. 1990s: The 1990s witnessed a more casual and grunge-inspired approach to hairstyles. The "Rachel" haircut, popularized by Jennifer Aniston's character on the TV show "Friends," became incredibly trendy. Short, pixie cuts also gained popularity among women. Men's hairstyles ranged from long, unkempt looks to shorter, textured styles. 2000s: The turn of the millennium brought a mix of hairstyles. Straight, sleek hair became fashionable, often achieved through the use of straightening irons. Emo and scene subcultures popularized asymmetrical cuts, choppy layers, and bold colors. Men's hairstyles varied from buzz cuts to spiky hair. 2010s: The 2010s embraced a diverse range of hairstyles. The ombre trend gained popularity, with hair transitioning from dark to light colors. Buns, braids, and top knots became go-to styles for women. Men's hairstyles incorporated undercuts, fades, and more intricate beard grooming. The Evolution of Hairstyles Throughout the Decades - Pixie2020s: And finally, we reach the modern day hairstyles. The 2020s have seen a diverse range of popular hair trends. These trends reflect a blend of past styles with contemporary influences and individual expression. These types of cuts and looks have all been popularized so far.
  • Natural Textures: There has been a growing emphasis on embracing natural hair textures and celebrating diversity. People with curly and wavy hair have been encouraged to let their natural textures shine, leading to the popularity of hairstyles like the curly afro, twist-outs, and braid-outs.
  • Bob and Lob Haircuts: The bob and lob (long bob) haircuts have remained popular in the 2020s. These versatile styles can be customized to suit different face shapes and hair textures. The blunt bob, textured bob, and asymmetrical lob have been particularly trendy.
  • Pixie Cuts: Short pixie cuts have made a comeback in the 2020s, offering a bold and chic look. This style allows for low-maintenance haircare routines and can be customized with different textures and lengths to suit individual preferences.
  • Curtain Bangs: Curtain bangs, also known as Bardot bangs or '70s bangs, have gained popularity. This style features long, face-framing bangs that are parted in the middle, creating a soft and romantic look. Curtain bangs can be paired with various hairstyles, from long waves to updos.
  • Shag Haircuts: The shag haircut, inspired by the '70s, has been a popular choice in the 2020s. This layered cut adds texture and movement to the hair, often with feathered or choppy ends and best achieved with a razor. The modern shag offers a versatile and effortlessly cool aesthetic.
  • Balayage and Face-Framing Highlights: Balayage, a technique that creates soft, natural-looking highlights, has continued to be a sought-after trend in the 2020s. Face-framing highlights, where lighter tones are strategically placed around the face, have also gained popularity as they can brighten and accentuate facial features.
  • Sustainable and Low-Maintenance Styles: With increasing environmental awareness and thanks to the pandemic, sustainable and low-maintenance hairstyles have become popular. Effortless, air-dried looks, minimalist haircuts, and styles that require minimal product usage have gained traction. This trend aligns with the desire for a more eco-friendly and time-efficient approach to haircare.
Throughout the generations, hairstyles have changed dramatically. Every generation has been characterized by different looks and styles. As people continue to express their creativity with their hair, as new products are developed and as social and political climates change, these all influence how we decide to express ourselves through our personal styles. While some trends have lasted for decades, others have come and gone. Who knows what the rest of the 2020s or 2030s will bring. Whatever it is, we’re sure it’s going to be memorable.

Bobs, Bobs and More Bobs: The Trend of 2023
It seems 2023 is starting off with some fun looks. After a couple years of shagadelic haircuts and mullety styles, the trending looks are taking a more classic approach these days. While shags and mullets may have had their run, the bob is turning out to take centerfold. The great thing about a bob is that it’s so versatile. There are many ways to cut and style a bob to match a personality or persona. Bobs can be long or short, blunt or textured, curled or straight with or without bangs. The creative possibilities are endless! Let’s look at 10 popular bob styles that get the most love.

The Graduated Bob

The graduated bob is a type of bob with stacked layers in the back with longer strands in the front. The back of the hair tends to be more curved instead of a hard angle. It is it a difficult haircut to achieve but it looks great when done right. It’s a very common and popular short haircut. It can be achieved by using scissors or a razor.

A-Line Bob

Alternatively, the A-Line haircut refers to the perimeter of the haircut. It is the same as a graduated bob in that the hair is shorter in the back and longer in the front. However, it does not have the stacking of layers in the back. And the front is usually more pointed than a graduated bob.

Asymmetrical Bob

This type of bob’s distinct characteristic is that one side in front is longer than the other. It can have layers or no layers and it can be stacked or not stacked in the back. There are different renditions of an asymmetrical bob, but it’s usually a style for someone who wants a little edge to their bob style.

French Bob

The French bob is a classic bob hairstyle characterized by very short hair, either at the chin line or above. Sometimes it’s paired with short bangs too. Think of the movie Amelie and you’ll know what this looks like. It usually has lots of layers and texture for a choppy look. For the extra texture, a razor works well.

Italian Bob

Similar to a French Bob, the Italian bob is slightly longer, usually grazing the chin or below but above the shoulders. It’s sophisticated and elegant and has a blunt straight edge. The Italian bob carries weight at the bottom with a lot of volume. It can be achieved by using scissors or a razor...or both at the same time.

Lob

Lob stands for ‘long bob’ so the hair generally skims the shoulders or goes slightly past it. This is a popular look in modern times as it gives a happy medium between having short and long hair. When curled it can look shorter and resemble a traditional bob, but when straightened it can look more like medium length hair.

Straight Bob

A classic, simple no frills bob is the straight bob. With no layers, no texture, no curls or stacking, this look is very basic. It can be cut with bangs if desired, but the general look is one of sleek sophistication. The look is completely symmetrical and lays flat against the head. It can look quite sultry and sexy if done right.

Layered Bob

This style is also known as a textured bob. Simply stated, this type of bob has more body and movement to give volume. While the straight bob has no layers or volume, the layered bob is all about the extra lift. The extra texture is often achieved by using a razor.

Curly Bob

With even more texture is the curly bob. The curly bob is full of bounce and volume. It could be layered but it doesn’t have to be. This bob is fun and full of life and energy. The curls could be natural or intentionally made with a curling iron or curling tool. The curls can be tight and small or big and loose. There are so many ways a curly bob can look!

Modern Bob

The modern bob is so 2023. It’s what has been trending for bobs in the last few years. And it’s THIS bob. While it won’t last forever, it is the ‘it’ style as of late. The modern bob is characterized as casual, cool, soft and feminine. It usually has a slight curl in there and a little volume. It’s a simple yet stylish bob that’s attractive and eye catching. It’s no wonder the modern bob has become so popular.   So that’s it! 10 bob hairstyles for 2023. Although most of these bobs have been around for many many years, it just goes to show how classic the bob really is. It will never go out of style and there will always be new innovative ways to cut and style a bob. Here’s to short hair in 2023.

Prom Hair, Don’t Care. 8 Prom Hairdo Ideas You’ll Love
It's prom season! For high schoolers, it's an important event in their lives and one they will always remember. Getting dressed up, having a date, spending the evening with friends in a glammed up atmosphere and making it a night to remember are all part of the experience. For the ladies, looking pretty from the dress to the make-up to the hair is critical and part of the fun. So if you're looking for some prom hair ideas here are 8 fun ones that are sure to turn heads and make a young lady feel beautiful.

Large French Braid

This is not your ordinary French braid! Making a thick braid can make hair look fuller and more like an updo. It adds a focal point for the hair as the eyes are drawn to the back of the head all the way down. It works best on long hair, but if open to extensions, this can be anyone's hairstyle. The braid can be accented with jewels, flowers or hair barrettes for some extra pop.

Updo with Succulent

An updo is a classic hairstyle for any special event or occasion. But why not spruce it up with some flowers or maybe even a succulent? Using plants in the hair gives the style a more romantic, feminine look. It's best to use real succulents or flowers for the prettiest results, but fake plants can look fine if done well.

Half Ponytail with Pearls

If the desire is to keep the hair long and flowy, how about a half ponytail? This hairstyles pulls the hair back out of the face so the focal point is brought to the back of the head. With long flowing tendrils in a soft half pony tail, you can accent this popular hairstyle with a number of different trinkets such as pearls (shown here). It's beautiful, elegant and simple. What more can you ask for?

Low Ponytail

Ponytails are not just for working out. They can be made to work well with a prom dress too! This low ponytail incorporates straight slick back hair to the neckline. It's then wrapped with hair around the band with curls below. Perhaps substitute the curls for completely straight hair, crimped hair or teased hair. Get creative with the low ponytail and customize it toward the look of the dress.

High Ponytail

On the flip side is the high ponytail. With a little more edge and funk, a high ponytail can be done with medium or long hair. Give it some volume with extra teasing or leaving it stick straight for extra sophistication. A high ponytail keeps things fun, lighthearted and hassle free.

Topsy Tail

Remember the Topsy Tail? The topsy tail was all the rage in the early 1990's. With the a simple tool that featured a loop at one end and a sectioning tail end, you could create a distinctive look that was difficult to easily achieve without the tool. Today, the Topsy Tail look is used regularly in updos and special occasion hair. It's often glamorized with curls and hair trinkets (i.e. flowers, jewels, hair pins). You can use it to create a variety of hairstyles including those for prom. Give it a try.

Hollywood Waves

Popularized in the 1920's the Hollywood wave is a distinctive hairstyle where all the hair is waved in the exact same wave pattern. It's like a full cascade of waves that looks beautiful and gives a sophisticated looks. It can be done on somewhat short hair to long hair but it gives that unique vintage look that so many love these days. If hair isn't long enough, extensions can work too. The Hollywood wave has maintained popularity all this time and it's no secret why!

Tiered Updo

The good thing about this hairstyle is that it can work well on short hair. It's unique and fun. And chances are no one else at prom will have this hairdo! This tiered updo gives an elegant and beautiful look that's not that difficult to do. The reel shows exactly how it's done so watch and soak it up!

Independence Day. Celebrating the Freedom to be Creative with Hair
Fourth of July is a holiday where we take a moment to celebrate our freedom. We should give thanks to our forefathers before us for the ability to live independently and free. Almost 250 years later, we are still celebrating this day which often comes in the form of parades, BBQs, weekend events, music and more! Like many other holidays, people like to express their freedom to be an individual and sometimes that includes hair. Here are some 4th of July hair Insta-inspiration. Happy 4th everyone!
@jackieinmanhair uses extensions and color to create this cool fourth of July hairstyle. With horizontal tones of red and blue down platinum blonde hair, this is a great style for a fun weekend on the lake, at a concert or other event where you can let loose and just enjoy the sun and festivities.

A post shared by Elaine 🇵🇷 (@hairby_laine)

@hairby_laine takes a stab at darker tones of red and blue on dark hair to give this rich independence day hairstyle. Curled for depth and added style, this look is great for someone who has naturally dark hair but wants fun colors.
@kissysbombshellbeauties creates a ‘look at me’ style that will turn heads. Bright red, white, and blue spikey hair on top, buzz cut on the sides and colored stars on the side scream fourth of July loud and clear. This look is great for true attention getters and those who love expressing themselves through their hair.
@paintitblonde makes 4th of July romantic with this wavy long haired red, white and blue hairstyle. Keeping the blue at the front of the head gives the style a focal point. The red at the bottom half of the hair gives it a dramatic pop. The beautiful curls keep this look feminine and soft.
@mysalonsuite_southhillspgh makes braids fun when it comes to the fourth of July. Weaving in red, white and blue hair into three French braided sections, as well as some white ribbon, this is a cool hairstyle for an outdoor event, the beach or BBQ. It’s nice for those hot summer days when all you want to do is keep your hair out of your face and off your sticky back!
@samirasjewelry can we say gorgeous?! So romantic and yet requires no hair color or extensions or hair pieces. She creates a beautiful hairstyle that could even be wedding hair and simply places some red and blue flowers into the hair for that fourth of July touch.
@helmet_hair has this cute little boy smiling with this red, white and blue hairstyle. After the color has washed out, the hair can easily be buzz cut off to start a fresh new look. But for now, this 4th of July style will make him the talk of the party.
@studio226salonsuites designs a cute style for youthful girls incorporating a braid and pops of red, white and blue color into the hair as well as some star hair décor. It’s great for a parade, BBQ get togethers or a fun day with family and friends.
@shannyscissorhands has a similar look to @kissysbombshellbeauties except for the hair is much longer in the front and tapers off toward the back. The stars are a bit different but this has a more mohawk look that requires some serious dedication. @houseofhue_anahleejohnson might now have red or white in her hairstyle, but she incorporates a star hair design in this perfectly done undercut. It’s such a cool way to celebrate 4th of July in a different way. With curly blue hair on top, this style is a great summer short hair look. Unfortunately, this image couldn't be embedded so you can see the look here. Fourth of July is a time to celebrate our freedom and a declaration of independence dating all the way back to 1776. While the meaning is still the same, people use it as a time to express their own individuality and freedom to express themselves whether that be through hair, clothes, make-up or whatever else they feel suits them. If you’re looking for some fun 4th of July hair inspiration, this is a fun collection that should get your juices stirring! Happy fourth everyone and stay safe.

Stylists: Dreamy Wedding Hair Inspiration for the Soon to be Bride
It’s wedding season and you know what that means? It’s all about the bride and groom, making their special day one to remember. For the bride, she wants it to be perfect, the perfect dress, shoes, makeup and of course hair. As a stylist, your job is to make her hair look beautiful so she can walk down that aisle with confidence and beauty. Brides often have different ideas of what they want. Some want something simple while others want something more elaborate. Whatever the case, tapping into your bridal hair zone is going to be essential to create some of these bridal hair inspiration hairstyles. Below are some dreamy wedding hair looks to get your creative juices flowing. From updos to long free flowing hair, there’s a perfect wedding hairdo that each of your bridal clients want. Starting from short and working toward long styles, these are some beautiful styles that deserve some shout outs. This magical rose-shaped updo was created by @lalasupdos. A top influencer in the world of updos, Lala sculps this hairstyle to emulate the shape of a rose. With defined ‘petals’ it blooms into a beautiful flower. It works beautifully with the red hair as a rose would be as well. Stunning, intricate and a showstopper.

Instead of building the focal point of the style on the top of the head, this one builds it to the back. Created by @salomemng, this style creates a structured knotted look. Like a defined pattern there’s something about this look that creates a sense of perfectionism. While not a curled look, it does give off a sense of curls with the big loops. Decorate it with a beautiful rhinestone accessory.

@dianaperaltamakeup created this sleek and seemingly simple updo. With a rhinestone headpiece, this look pairs up nicely with a sleek dress. Simple lines on the dress match the sophisticated aura of this hairstyle. While many bridal hairstyles feature large loose curls, this one is completely the opposite. Gorgeous and stylish, it’s a beautiful updo for a classy bride to be.
This style is similar in that the hair is brought to the lower back of the head. However, this updo by @lisamariehair__ has a more romantic, whimsical look and feel. Instead of the slick back hair around the head, the hair cascades to the back in defined curled strands. Floral accents are all the rage right now and fit nicely with romantic looks. In this case the baby’s breadth and the use of real flowers adds a more natural look to the style. With some dangling curled strands of hair in the front and back as well as loosely pinned up hair in the back, this makes for a nice hybrid between a structured and flowy look. Gorgeous!
A simpler look, this style is classy. Using the JATAI Teasing Pin Comb to achieve some of the internal volume, the hair is loosely tied back and pinned up in 3 horizontal sections. Add a piece of hair jewelry and you have this simple look that works with a variety of dress styles. Versatile and clean, it makes for a pretty bridal updo. Created by @hairbysaretta.

If you’re looking for an updo that is completely romantic and whimsical, this is it. @bridalhairbykatelyn uses big braids and loose flowing curls to create this look. Braids have been incorporated into bridal hairstyles for as long as bridal hair has been around. But these large braids are a more modern development that has changed the game for bridal hair. This look creates a lot more volume around the crown of the hair.
This last look before we head into the longer looks is a unique mohawk-like updo. While many brides might not consider this as the style they’d like, for some edgier brides, this could be of interest. Pining curled sections from the top of the head all the way down to the back of the head makes this style interesting, fun and daring. Pair it with some feminine pearls or hair jewelry and you’ve got this stunning look. This is another look from @lalasupdos

If you’re looking for longer bridal styles, this one by @hairbydanielletranter puts romance and femininity into play. Large curls that cascade down but pinned together makes this hairstyle sweet and soft. Floral accents don’t have to consist of real flowers. They can be artificial and still look great. Placing floral accents down the length of the hair adds another lovely touch.
Another long one, this one incorporates a big braid that goes down the length of the hair. With highlights in the hair, it makes this look feel more earthy and allows the braid to have more dimension. The hair jewelry that follows the path of the braid is a nice accent to this gorgeous style. This is another winner by @bridalhairbykatelyn!
For anyone looking for something different but want to keep the hair long, this beauty by @hairbysaretta takes a stab at long hair with flowers made out of hair. The three flowers that cascade down the hair is a unique and gorgeous look that any bride would love. The flowers are made out of braids and the whole look was created using the JATAI Teasing Pin Comb.

Lastly, another one by @bridalhairbykatelyn, this one is probably the simplest of all. This style uses the half up, half down look. It gives a boho vibe that is so popular right now. Light waves in the hair and the romantic topsy tail style makes this look attractive and sweet. She also uses extensions to achieve this look.

Women’s Hair Trends for 2022: Bold, Sophisticated, Cute and Classic
Can you believe it? It’s almost 2022! 2021 was a whirlwind of a year but it flew by in a blink of an eye. While we continued to battle the trials and tribulations of the pandemic and adjusted to a new normal, hair trends continued to evolve. Afterall, in a world where we feel little control over larger economic and political situations, one thing we can control is our hair. Hair creativity will never cease to exist and the desire for new creative forms of expression through hair will continue to inspire us to keep moving forward. So what are our predictions? We believe 2022 will ring in with the old, but incorporate some new trending hairstyles. Let’s take a look at our predictions. In 2021, there was a huge surge in long shags for women. The piecey, shaggy look, best achieved by a razor, gave life to hair. Voluminous and free, you would see shaggy rocker looks or more romantic wispy shag looks. With shorter layers in the back, volume was the name of the game for shags this year. Paired with some form of bangs (curtain bangs, baby bangs, side swept bangs) we believe the long shag will continue to trend in 2022.

But we will see a greater focus on shorter shags in 2022. Also, soft, piecey and layered, the short shag is fun, cute and spunky. With a slight curl or wave, the layers of a short shag give more volume to the hair but it’s less dramatic than the long shag.

Along, the lines of the short shag, the French bob, will continue to grow. The French bob has a more European look, hence ‘French.’ Shorter than a short shag, the French bob is generally above chin length and is paired with some sort of bangs (baby bangs, heavy bangs). It’s also somewhat curled or straight or sometimes curled at the ends. The French bob is a super cute haircut that can be sophisticated, playful and indie depending how it’s styled. Look for more French bobs come 2022.
The blunt bob will also trend in 2022. It’s low maintenance, sleek and simple. Thanks to Kourtney Kardashian, she has popularized this haircut lately. With either a hard part down the middle or to the side, the stick straight look is sexy and sophisticated. It’s a very precise cut best achieved with scissors. While it’s always been a classic bob cut, its ability to be glamourous and versatile is the draw to this haircut right now.
Lastly, how can we forget about the mullet. Who would have ever thought the mullet would come back in a big way? Well it has and it will continue to do so through 2022. But the mullet of today is not the same as the mullet of the past. Today’s mullets are more colorful and have greater variation. Some mullets are long, some are short, some have shaved sides and others don’t. The mullet has so much variety, it’s the spice of life right now in trending haircuts. It’s rebellious. It’s bold. It’s rocker. And people like this haircut because they get to express themselves in a cool and fun way. But one of the most unique things about this haircut is that it crosses genders. Both men and women have taken to this haircut in a big way. Androgynous hairstyles are a trend we will see more of in the future as gender lines continue to blur.
Speaking of expression, the other trendy haircut for 2022 may just be the shaved head with hair dye designs. With this hairstyle, you are sure to stand out and make a statement. Rebellious, the shaved head is being popularized by women with unique and creative designs made with hair dye. From animal print to bright colors to checkers, flames and flowers, the options are limitless. Not only is hair dye used to create a design but hair is also cut to create patterns within the hair.

We never truly know what will take off each year, but based on what we are seeing here at the end of 2021 we are going to expand on what’s already popular in 2021. Or perhaps you will create a new trend. Until then, enjoy the rest of the year and we look forward to seeing what 2022 brings to the hair industry.

Women’s Hair Trends: Spring – Summer 2021

Women’s Hair Trends: Spring – Summer 2021
My way of interpreting coming trends is to look at what’s popular now and what’s on its way out for the next season. I think that Spring-Summer 2021 hair fashion will reflect the ‘opposite of now’ and bring us some beautiful natural transitions. [caption id="attachment_22942" align="alignleft" width="400"]Razor Cut Bob Razor Cut Bob[/caption] There are certain basic looks that never seem to go out of style – they simply vary from year to year, and in some cases, decade to decade.  The Bob is a great example of a look that has been with us for decades, but is tremendously versatile in terms of length, shape, and texture.  For this season, we’ll be seeing lots of interior movement with more shattered thinner bottom with wispy ends. The razor cut Bob takes on longer layers and texture but less volume … the overall feeling is more light and airy for Spring. I feel that the leading Shag trend as we know it is on its way out. The traditional Shag is transitioning from a solid shape into a more structured shape and not so wispy at the ends. [caption id="attachment_22943" align="alignright" width="384"]Beach Waves Beach Waves[/caption] As for Beach Waves that have been popular for so long, they are here to stay! This look has evolved from more than a decade ago (started out with those barrel sausage curls of Jessica Simpson and then ‘relaxed’ over the years).  Of course, we always want to keep this in-demand look fresh and updated. The length can vary for the look of beach waves and it still looks good on people. For this season, I use a round brush for texture and volume but not as much curve … the overall look is more relaxed. I am also building in tons of layers throughout and create different bangs – like curtain bangs and other variations that compliment the client. Razor cutting is a key tool to achieving the season’s newest looks. (I just shot an educational video for the Jatai Academy that shows how I create the newest looks with the Jatai Feather Razor. As a stylist, doing razor cutting forces me to look at each section but really analyze ‘section by section’. I don’t just look at the shape but how each shape creates light and shadow … how I create movement by cutting very shattered or solid but always soft … cutting a little here and a little there. I sculpt with the Feather Razor and like being tuned in to the texture and pattern – not just caring about and cutting a shape. I also find that razor cutting allows for less fine tuning at the ends.
