My client was ready for a big change and knew she wanted to embrace a shaggy shape and add fringe. She wanted a style that would be low maintenance, enhance her natural texture, and that would give her versatile styling options. Judging by her natural texture seen in her before photo, I knew this cut would be the perfect way to remove and redistribute weight in her hair, and to open negative space to enhance her natural wave. I used both a
Feather Plier Razor and a
Feather Styling Razorthroughout the haircut. Using my Feather Plier Razor first, I started with shaping her fringe, making sure to carefully remove weight around her face as well. Her fringe then became my guide for how I wanted to shape her layers. I pulled small sections forward, connected to my guide, and layered into her hair. I carved petals into each section which created the negative space I needed to mimic a S-curve wave and enhance her texture. One of my favorite things about cutting with the razor is how instantly you see the hair embrace the cut; instantly I could see her hair flowing perfectly as it began to air dry. Once I have really set the shape of the cut with my Plier, I always love to go back in with any detailing using my Styling Razor. As her hair is air drying, I go back through and visually decide if anything is laying heavy or not moving in the way I want. The Styling Razor is the perfect tool to adjust her length, open up her ends, or carve into the hair. It gives me the freedom to focus in on small details without the risk of any nips to my fingers! For example, I love to use it to go back into the fringe, where the hair is much tinier, and make any edits or additional detailing. To style, I used the same approach of wanting to give her a low maintenance routine. I used minimal products, diffused, and hand styled.
